Sindh Govt to Hire Hindu & Christian Teachers; Religious Curriculum for NonMuslim Students Soon

The Sindh Assembly has discussed a new proposal demanding religious education for non-Muslim students in public schools.

Mahesh Kumar, a minority member of the assembly, said that Hindu and Christian students should be taught their own religion just like Muslim students are taught Islamiat. He argued that teaching “Ethics” alone is not enough and that separate books and teachers should be arranged for minority faiths.

In response, Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah agreed and said that work has already begun. He confirmed that in Sindh’s government schools:

  • Over 325,000 Hindu students are enrolled.
  • Around 5,700 Christian students are also studying.
  • Nearly 29,000 other minority students are registered.

He said that the government is planning to recruit Hindu and Christian teachers soon and will also introduce proper textbooks so that students can learn their own faiths in schools.

The minister added, “This is a constitutional right, and we are working to ensure it.”
