Karachi : A growing number of deadly road accidents caused by heavy dumpers in Karachi has led to strong criticism from Barrister Hassan Khan, who has questioned the way these cases are being handled by the Investigation Officers
Speaking in the program Pakistan Today @K21news Barrister Hassan said that in most cases police register qatl khata (unintentional killing) which is a bailable offence. However he believes many of these incidents should be treated as qatl bil sabab a non bailable offence especially when drivers have no valid licence or vehicle fitness certificate.
If the government wants people to respect the law, punishments must not only be given but also be seen Barrister Hassan said When people see justice being done, they think twice before breaking the law
He also demanded that dumper owner’s names should be included in FIRs According to him holding owners accountable will push them to ensure proper safety measures are in place
Sindh’s Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced new safety rules he said All dumpers will be required to install cameras and GPS trackers A deadline has been given after then no dumper will be allowed to enter Karachi without these devices
The move aims to improve road safety reduce fatal accidents, and ensure that both drivers and owners take responsibility for their vehicles
